Obituary

On August 19th we lost a cherished husband, stepfather, zayde, and friend, Josh Zambrowsky. To try and describe Josh is an attempt to capture the ephemeral. A lifelong academic, lawyer, criminologist, playwright, musician, storyteller, dinner table debater, finger skater, sports fanatic, lover of Indian food, Cuban cigars, jazz, and sunny days.

The home he shared with Suan held the sounds of flute playing, sports on the TV, and many music celebrations with those he cared about. It was also filled with books and art collected from trips all over the world - most notably Kenya, where Josh volunteered for many years working with residents of the Mathare Slum in Nairobi.

In his criminal law practice Josh was a staunch advocate for those under represented.

His integrity, sense of fairness, and due process were unwavering. Josh was quick witted, a man who danced to his own tune. He carried a dry and fantastical sense of humour.

From the time his grand daughter was very little, he would create stories, and silly skits that would continue for years.

He loved the absurd as much as he loved facts. He had strong opinions rooted in his deep knowledge of history and politics. A lifetime of stories, conversations, arguments, laughter and love were his hallmarks.

His best quality was his gentle nature. He was someone who noticed others, a great listener, supportive, and encouraging to other people. Josh was a father figure to some beyond his own family, and made deep lasting connections.

Josh’s leaves the heavy tasks of award-winning brisket making, poor gift wrapping, and many other shenanigans to his beautiful, superhuman wife, Suan Cross; his doting stepdaughter, Lissa Constantine and her husband Michael Toporowski, his sidekick granddaughter, Avrie Constantine-Amey.

The dearly loved, never to be forgotten, Joshua Zambrowsky has now joined his four legged companion, and back up singer Henry, over the rainbow bridge.

“Always wash your hands before you cross the street.” JZ

We love you and miss you fiercely, Joshie.
